![]() ![]() Mozelle’s Fresh Southern Bistroįresh, local ingredients and lots of Southern influence and hospitality have made Mozelle’s a go-to in the West End neighborhood for over a decade. Service starts at breakfast and continues through night caps, so there’s no reason not to visit. The space is open and intimate at the same time with a seasonal patio and fun bar. This is particularly fitting since it is located in the Kimpton Cardinal Hotel, which was previously the RJ Reynolds building. The brasserie is named after Katharine Reynolds, the matriarch of the famous Reynolds family. That means that the exquisite menu features everything from mussels and beef tartare to North Carolina trout and duck breast with turnip greens. Would probably go again if we lived in the area, wouldn't if we were visiting/passing through. The Katharine is a French brasserie with a Southern flare. We were late enough getting to the restaurant that they weren't crowded. Our meals didn't come out together, either not a huge amount of time in between, but didn't make much sense that they weren't brought out together. Didn't eat them, staff didn't question why. Also ordered french fries which were lukewarm when brought to the table and quickly became cold. Upgraded one of his sides to a salad (was an upcharge), nice amount of lettuce and had 2 little cups of dressing. Didn't taste like aged beef, although the menu said it was aged 28 days. Staff never came by to see how it was cooked. Husband ordered the NY Strip as rare as they would cook it. Nice amount of tuna, made for a good combo and just the right amount of food. Also ordered the shashimi ahi tuna as a meal instead of an appetizer. Could have had a bit more onions for my liking. A splash of cognac or brandy at the end of cooking would have escalated it. It had a nice broth, could have been a bit more rich/more demi glace in it. I started with a cup of French onion soup. Greeted fairly quickly by wait staff, beverages were brought out right away. ![]() Not only would it have been more quiet, would have added to the ambiance. Place was a bit noisy it had a lot of dark wood and would have been nice if the booths/tables had been a bit secluded/had partitions between them.
